Danny Diablo - Thugcore 4 Life Review
Danny Diablo: "Thugcore 4 Life"
2007 Suburban Noize

1. We Don't Care
It kicks off with a pretty cool riff and goes into some very heavy punk metal sounding vocals. In all honesty I didn’t expect something so hard, but I’m definitely digging this first track. It’s hard to pin point a comparison for this song to any other artists because it stands on its own. If the rest of the album follows this lead, we may be in for a huge surprise.

2. Get Down
From there we go to some scratching of the announcement of Danny Diablo. It goes into a slower drum beat with some very cool electronics in the background. It’s something you can nod your head to, but at the same time it has a sinister undertone to it. Diablo flows over the track with lyrics that are reminiscent to old school gangsta rap, but not in the artificial 50 Cent type of way.

3. Banged Out
It goes back into a solid guitar riff and opens with a “1-2 I’m coming for you/ 3-4…” type of thing that’s from a Freddy movie. I’m starting to feel the angry punk/hip hop type of thing that Diablo puts out there. Lyrically, I prefer the tracks before this one but I wouldn’t skip it or turn it off if I heard it again.

4. Funky Rhyme (Feat. Daddy X of KMK, Stress & Havok of the Subhoodz)
I’d be distraught if this didn’t start off with a funky rhyme and it delivered. The guess appearances of Daddy X, Stress, and Havok blend in well with the album. It’s lyrically simple, but it gives me a cool old school hip hop vibe. It’s my first exposure of Subhoodz, but I hope not my last.

5. Jersey White Trash
The title explains it all. It talks about a girl Danny D knew that was Jersey White Trash. The lyrical structure reminds me of Bruce Springstein, but with some punk thrown in there. I know if I told someone that comparison in the streets they’d probably think I was joking, but it works out nicely in this track.

6. I'm a Shotblocker!!! (Feat. Prince Metropolitan, Ceekay & Panic of the Shotblockers)
How the hell has this song not made it to a NBA game highlight video I don’t know? The beat is very tight and the Shotblockers verses in this one are a grittier than what we’ve heard so far on the album. The lyrics in the verse are good, but the chorus is a little plain compared to the rest of what the track offers.

7. Livin' By The Gun
Scratches bring us into a reggae type of beat. Diablo uses his punk vocals for this one which is a weird contrast. The point of this one is living by the gun and using it for revenge. The guitar riff after the chorus is very cool and breaks up the beat a little. Another solid track.

8. Satanic Shamrocks (Feat. Skinhead Rob and Slaine, Big Left & Dannyboy of La Coka Nostra)
This track is dedicated to coke heads, strippers, and scum of NY. It’s got a sinister synth beat and really hateful lyrics. It’s hate towards the fake gangstas and posers, so I’m cool with it. The track comes in at 5:20, which might have been a tad bit too long for a simple beat to carry it.

9. Unstoppable
It starts with acoustic sounding guitar and goes into a heavy riff. Good riffs and good hip hop rhymes are what we get at start. The chorus is more of the angry punk type of vocals. He talks about struggles and how he’s overcome it and because of it, he is unstoppable.

10. Mechanix (Feat. Prince Metropolitan, Skinhead Rob & Necro)
It’s a cool loop with a guitar riff loop under it which is pretty damn cool. The flows are well written and the slowed down lyricists compliment the music nicely.

11. The Harsh Truth
It’s a harder punk metal song. When Diablo uses vocals like this on a harder song it works out so much better than with a hip hop beat behind it. Like the opening track “We Don’t Care”, this one stands out because it’s purely a hard song and just rocks. The guitar solo towards in the middle of it is very good and again I didn’t expect it. It’s definitely a head banger.

12. Hardcore 4 Life
The song is dedicated to a friend who lost his eye. It’s a slower guitar loop with slower vocals from Diablo. He gives shout out to all of his boys and then goes into a very well written description of what makes him Danny Diablo. The end fades off the electronics and then finally the guitar.
